Successful Online Businesses During COVID-19
We are facing a change in business as we have never seen before. Nothing could have prepared us for the magnitude of the COVID-19 crisis. If you are an entrepreneur, freelancer or employee who can work from home, you are very lucky as most people are not able to do so. Now is the time to re-strategize your business, your job and your future. What will you do when all goes back to normal, and what will be the new normal? Depending on your revenue you might have to let go of employees to keep the business running. How can you make your business sustainable for the long run? How can you create more revenue from a successful online business?
Going remote with your business.
Every niche is under great pressure during the COVID-19. If you have a company that does not work in a digital niche, but one that does work with an enterprise resource planning software like SAP or Microsoft Dynamics, you can have your employees work from home. For you the next question will be, how to manage a successful online business, how do you go from onsite to fully remote.
Ways of communicating and managing your team will change, and you need to ensure that everyone will have the right equipment to work from home. With tools like Zoom and Microsoft Teams, you can have daily meetings, ensuring the right communication to boost productivity. Research has shown that people working from home are often more productive then working from the office.
Creating online courses and selling online
Many companies find themselves having to master the skill of online courses, and how to create webinars. If you are a teacher, you will have to teach online. If you are a therapist or counselor, online courses and webinars are the way to go forward until we go back to normal. Restaurants can sell online vouchers for when they reopen and could create delivery dishes.
One thing I would advise restaurants is to create “make yourself” delivery dishes, a box with ingredients. If you look at the statistics people at home are killing there time by cooking and baking. Have a restaurant set up an eCommerce page linked to a live event of a webinar where the book shows you how to make that dish, that dish of which you ordered a box with ingredients. Everyone wants to be a master chef.
My sister runs an NGO where she helps people with Parkinson’s through movement therapy. She was one of the first NGO’s that had to stop. What is she doing now? She continues with the daily classes, but online, and is creating a platform for every person in the world who suffers from Parkinson’s. Long term strategy.
See where your business can offer products or services that can be sold online. Could you create an eCommerce store? There have never been more online platforms to help you build an online store.
Can you create an online course? All you need is a webinar platform and a camera. And content.
And maybe you are lucky and can take this time to study, and re-brand yourself. Even marketing companies will have to go deeper, how do you help the restaurant sell online? How do you help the dentist?
One thing is for sure, this is the time to change. This is the time to see where your business can grow more, and we all have to start to think long term. Bills have to be paid, yesterday, but how will you change your business to be sustainable one year from now?
